THE BRIDAL TAN

A flawless bridal tan is more than just beautiful colour — it’s about enhancing natural beauty and giving every bride the confidence to shine on one of the most memorable days of her life.

A soft, natural-looking glow photographs beautifully, complements every bridal gown, and creates a radiant finish that lasts throughout the wedding celebrations. As the wedding day approaches, your expertise and guidance become just as important as the tan itself.

The Perfect Bridal Glow

Every bride is unique, which is why every bridal spray tan should be personalised. Before selecting a tanning solution, consider the bride’s:

  • Natural skin type and undertone
  • Desired depth of colour
  • Wedding dress colour
  • Makeup style
  • Hair colour
  • Overall wedding aesthetic

The goal is never to change how the bride looks—it’s to enhance her natural complexion with healthy, believable colour.

Choosing the Right Colour Base

Black Magic Tan offers four professional colour bases designed to suit a wide range of skin tones and undertones:

  • Brown Base – Rich, natural bronzed results suitable for most skin tones.
  • Violet Base – Perfect for warm or yellow undertones, creating a deep tropical bronze.
  • Green Base – Ideal for cooler pink or red undertones, delivering a natural olive finish.
  • Chocolate Base – A luxurious deep bronze suited to clients wanting richer colour.

Each advanced formula is designed to deliver:

  • Natural-looking colour
  • Even, streak-free application
  • Long-lasting results
  • Beautiful fade
  • Hydrated, nourished skin

Understanding Skin Undertones

One of the most important factors in achieving a flawless bridal tan is understanding skin undertones.

Unlike surface skin colour, which changes with sun exposure, the skin’s undertone remains constant throughout life. Undertones generally fall into three categories:

  • Warm
  • Cool
  • Neutral

Matching the correct colour base to the bride’s undertone helps create the most natural-looking result while avoiding unwanted orange, yellow or grey tones.

The Quick Vein Test

A simple way to identify undertones is by looking at the veins on the inside of the wrist in natural daylight.

  • Blue or Purple veins – Cool undertone
  • Green veins – Warm undertone
  • Blue-Green veins – Neutral undertone

This quick assessment provides an excellent starting point when selecting the ideal spray tan solution.

COOL SKIN TONE –

If the Brides veins appear blue or purple, her skin tone is cool.

The best tanning base for a cool skin tone is a tanning solution from our Green Base range. A Green base will counteract any pink hue the skin will throw leaving your Bride with the most natural looking tan.

WARM SKIN TONE –

If the Brides veins appear green, her skin tone is warm.

A warm skin type will quickly bronze or darken in the sun, so a warm skin tone would suit a violet base. Violet will counteract any yellow hue.

NEUTRAL SKIN TONE –

If you can’t tell whether the bride’s veins are green or blue, she most likely falls into the neutral skin tone category. Brides with a neutral skin tone have a wide variety of choice.
Should your Bride be lucky enough to have an olive complexion she will suit all colour bases.

Bridal Consultation Checklist

A successful bridal tan starts with careful planning.

Consultation

Schedule a consultation well before the wedding day to discuss expectations, assess skin type and undertones, and recommend the most suitable tanning solution.

Trial Tan

Whenever possible, perform a trial tan 2–4 weeks before the wedding. This allows both you and the bride to evaluate the colour, development time and overall finish, while making any adjustments before the big day.

Desired Finish

Discuss the bride’s vision.

Does she prefer:

  • A soft sun-kissed glow?
  • A medium natural bronze?
  • A richer, deeper tan?

The spray tan should complement—not overpower—her overall bridal look.

Wedding Dress

Dress colour plays an important role.

  • White and ivory gowns pair beautifully with a soft to medium natural tan.
  • Champagne, nude or warmer-toned dresses can often suit a slightly deeper bronze.

Keep It Natural

For bridal tanning, less is often more.

The most beautiful bridal tans enhance the skin rather than dominate it, creating healthy, luminous colour that looks flawless both in person and in professional photography.

Professional Tip

Encourage every bride to follow her pre- and post-tan instructions carefully, schedule her final spray tan 2–3 days before the wedding, and moisturise daily to maintain an even, radiant glow.

A beautifully executed bridal tan should never be noticed—it should simply make the bride look like the very best version of herself.

Remember, the bride’s comfort and preferences are key. Communicate openly with the bride and ensure that the chosen shade aligns with the bride’s vision for her wedding day.
